ABOUT CATARACT SURGERY:

It is a procedure done to remove the lens of the eye, commonly being replaced by an artificial one. It is done to treat cataract where the lens becomes opaque/clouded thus affecting vision. It is very common in old people. It is a common and safe surgery, done as an OPD procedure and can be planned as per convenience. The cataract is removed through phacoemulsification (Phaco) or extracapsular extraction and replaced by an artificial lens. This intraocular lens (IOL) is made up of acrylic, plastic or silicon and can be of rigid or foldable variety. This procedure is done by an Opthalmologist.
